Novel alkaloids with potency towards Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB), have been identified from Allium stipitatum (Persian shallot). Disulphide analogues of these compounds were subsequently synthesised and demonstrated potential as novel scaffolds which could lead to the development of new drugs against TB.
