High Value Chemicals from Plants Network Privacy Notice

This privacy notice is for users of the High Value Chemicals from Plants Network (HVCfP) website. It sets out the ways in which your data is gathered, used, stored and shared. It also sets out how long we keep your data and what rights you have in relation to your data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What is HVCfP?

HVCfP is a Phase I Network in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy funded by a research grant awarded to Professor Ian Graham of the University of York by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) (grant code BB/L013665/1) from January 2014 – December 2018.

Where do we get your data from?

In the period January 2014 – December 2018, it was possible to register as a member of HVCfP by providing certain personal data. This option has now been removed from our website as the funding period of the HVCfP Network has come to an end. The HVCfP website is freely available for you to use without the requirement to provide any personal information. You should be aware that this website uses cookies – small text files which helps your web browser navigate through the website. The use of cookies is a convenient way of allowing a computer to remember specific information relating to a website which has been visited. You can manage cookies from this site, including blocking or deleting them, by changing the settings in your web browser. However, please note that deleting cookies may result in parts of this site and its online services not working as expected.

What data do we require?

We do not require you to provide any personal data in order to use this open-access website.

Who manages the HVCfP website?

The HVCfP website is developed, supported, maintained and hosted by Castlegate IT, York, UK. Castlegate IT acts as a Data Processor on behalf of the University of York in accordance with a Data Processing Agreement and Website Hosting Agreement.

Does the HVCfP website store my personal data?

In the period 1st January 2014 – 31st December 2018, personal data of registered members of the HVCfP Network was retained on this website and used to create a searchable database for use by other registered members with a view to exchanging research ideas and establishing research consortia. As of 2nd January 2019, records required for audit purposes as a required output of grant BB/L013665/1 will be retained by the University of York for a period of 10 years in accordance with the BBSRC Statement on Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice https://bbsrc.ukri.org/documents/safeguarding-good-scientific-practice/ and any records of personal data which are no longer required will be deleted from this website within one calendar month.

Right to complain

If you are unhappy with the way in which the University of York has handled personal data provided to the HVCfP Network in the period January 2014 – December 2018, you have a right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
